So, we brought Christina to to college last week.
You know, you want them to be independent, but I ask you–who would it hurt if she would PRETEND to be going to miss us?! She did this is nursery school as well. She got out of the car and looked a bit disgusted that I was going to speak to her teacher for a minute… even back then, I cramped her style. Everyone was impressed that my kid had no attachment issues… hmmm… you have NO idea.
I’ve made excuses (really, really GOOD ones) to speak to her every day. I am extremely proud of the creativity of my reasons for having to contact her and then BAM! she called ME yesterday!! On her first day of school… woo hoo! I was wondering what excuse that I would use and then I was pleasantly surprised to hear from her! Okay, so she needed a copy of her SS card for her work study job and a book that she forgot, but I think that counts as a personal call (since she made a list of things that she’d ‘especially like’ me to send as well). She sounded so happy–so all is well.
It is very different around the house. Definately a presence missing. I don’t know that I like that… I want us all together. And I am aware that it is only going to get worse… the next one in only 2 years…
