basilAh yes, end of summer ceremonies include the tomato sauce making. This year my husband and I were on our own–the first I can remember not working with my in-laws (Sicilian immigrants and the originators of this family tradition)… and all the kids were conveniently out of town.

Without Nonna & Nonno to watch over us, we IMMEDIATELY cheated by not hand picking them… we have so few weekends available and it rained all week and the usual farm (Filasky’s in Maryland) was not allowing us out on the field. (more…)

Woo hoo! Finally results!

Yesterday, April 9th, was 1 month from the beginning of my new diet/life change.  I am down 7 lbs. and 1/2 inch off of my waistline. 

I am not hungry all the time but I am fighting the battle every day.  Seibold says that 'Losing weight is easy–but not simple." I have to mentally stop and speak to myself that I DON'T WANT THAT DONUT or other junk someone has brought into the house.  I am getting better about just NOT having something because I can't stop my family from their eating habits–I have to choose (sometimes out loud to myself) not to eat it.

Steve's program talks about NEVER cheating and I know that I've only seen success with not cheating with giving up chocolate for Lent… because I would never cheat on what I am fasting on during Lent.  He's right, even a small cheat will lead to 'this won't make a difference…' I've been there.  So, here's to staying on the wagon.
